Sundarbans is like treasure chest, a place full of mystery and the promise of new discoveries. It is a world of contrasts.

The Eco Farm resort was begun as a sustainable tourism venture. The location of the property is right in front of a river. An advantage of this property is that people can drive directly to the resort without having to cross a river.

Dakhin Rai Nature Camp started with just a couple of rooms. The property has big ponds and from the onset, fruits and vegetables were grown. The layout has been planned that there is greenery everywhere. At present there are 8 rooms available. Rooms on offer are mud huts, deluxe family rooms and standard rooms with all modern amenities. Each room has an attached washroom. There is space for tents too.
The food on offer is mostly grown in the resort. Cooking is done on traditional mud ovens using wood fire.
The resort has a jetty where guests can board a boat for safaris directly from the resort itself. The resort has its own boat which is not only used for tourists safaris, but is also used for educational tours, field trips and research purposes.
The resort offers a varied choice of activities, from local village walks, bird watching trips, visit to a nature park and wildlife rehabilitation centre, bonfires in winter with local cultural shows. Traditional tribal cultural programs. There are outdoor games available, like badminton or volleyball, fishing, cycling along the river path. Village Market day visits, sharing tea with a villager in their home. All these are available to guests.

Sundarbans is a treasure trove. There is a lot on offer. Nature is all around and it’s eco system is unique. It’s a well known destination for Birding. Wildlife is also the main reason for people to visit here.
It’s a tailor made place for students studying botany, horticulture, ornithology and various other fields related to nature.
The resort offers special concession packages for educational tours, college study groups.

Dakhin Rai Nature Camp’s existence was created with the aim to provide funding for projects run by the NGO, Saving Tiger Society. The objective was to get revenue from the resort of which, 50% would be given towards various projects. The NGO has been working in Sundarbans for more than a decade and handles many projects. There is a primary school, community development programs, health camps, relief aid, mangrove plantation, solar lightpost project, tree plantation, no plastic drive, a few examples of the projects.

The plan to give back some part of the revenue has not worked out as expected. Within a year of the resort opening, the world was hit with the pandemic. It was close to 3 years before people started travelling again. It’s been a hard struggle to sustain without any revenue generation. There are basic mandatory expenses that have to be borne. Staff salary, electricity, maintenance and upkeep, boat maintenance.

The resort has excellent potential for tourists as there are multiple options and activities available to suit every kind of wish. It’s ideal for families, a day trip, weekend stay and long stays. A regular turn over of guests is required to fulfill our objective of giving back for the community.

The name Sundarbans translates to ‘Beautiful Forest’ in the Bengali language. It justifies the name completely. One of the most visually stunning and unique landscapes you will experience. Due to its location, it consists of a vast network of waterways and channels which are the main means of travel for the people there. Very few of the islands are landlocked or accessible by road. 

It’s a world in itself, nowhere will you find the kind of sights and atmosphere that exists here. A short 3 hour drive from the city of Kolkata will get you to the gateway of an eco system that is one of a kind and quite amazing. 

You never know what to expect here, every day brings something new. Sundarbans is home to a huge array of birds and animals which is also one of the primary attractions. It’s a birders paradise, a wildlife lover’s dream and a photographers delight. 

Dakhin Rai Nature Camp located in the heart of Sundarbans, is a venture which has been created as a sustainable eco friendly tourist resort. There are choices of rooms, mud huts and tents to suit everyone’s style. Surrounded by lofty trees and gorgeous flowering plants, a butterfly garden and fish ponds which supply fresh fish for your meals. It’s truly a very scenic, relaxing and joyous experience staying here.
