CONSERVATIONAL WORKS

Dakhin Rai Nature Camp is a resort with an outlook towards sustainability and conservation. The goal here is to conserve and protect our environment and also safeguard the community. Keeping these in mind, the resort dedicates it’s generated revenue towards a few local projects.

Conservation Initiatives at Dakhin Rai Nature Camp

Dakhin Rai Nature Camp is more than just an eco-resort—it’s a hub for sustainability, conservation, and community empowerment. A significant portion of the resort’s revenue is dedicated to supporting impactful local projects. Here’s a look at the key initiatives we proudly support:

Education: Nafargunj Sunrise Nature Model School

One of our most meaningful contributions is the establishment of the Nafargunj Sunrise Nature Model School, located right in the village. The school is fully funded through the resort’s revenue, providing children with free access to education, books, stationery, and uniforms. A daily nutritious mid-day meal is also offered—often the only wholesome meal these children receive each day. This initiative ensures that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

The Dog Squad Project

Launched in 2016 by our partner NGO Saving Tiger Society, this innovative project began with four Belgian Malinois puppies and has since become one of the most effective anti-poaching efforts in the country. These highly trained dogs assist Forest Departments across various states in detecting illegal activities and tracking intruders in forest zones.

The Belgian Malinois breed was specifically chosen for its intelligence, adaptability, stamina, and courage—traits that make them ideal for high-risk, demanding environments. Each dog undergoes an intensive nine-month training program alongside its handler, learning to detect illegal substances, track suspicious activity, and respond to challenging scenarios. Once fully trained, the handler-dog teams are deployed on active duty to aid in forest protection.

Health Camp Project

The remote regions we work in—like the Sundarbans and other forested areas—often lack access to even basic healthcare. These communities face extreme daily challenges, with very limited medical support and infrastructure.

Through regular Health Camps, we provide free medical check-ups, treatments, and health awareness sessions to people living in these isolated locations. These camps often serve as a lifeline, especially during times of heavy rain, floods, or natural disasters when travel is nearly impossible.

School & Village Awareness Campaigns

We regularly organize environmental awareness programs in local schools and villages across the Sundarbans. These sessions focus on the importance of conservation, the preservation of wildlife, and the sustainable use of natural resources. By fostering a deeper connection between communities and their surroundings, we aim to reduce ecological damage and promote harmonious coexistence with nature. These initiatives have seen strong community participation and growing impact.

Animal Rescue Operations

Our on-ground team is trained and equipped to carry out animal rescues across the region. Whether it’s injured birds, snakes, or larger wildlife, the team responds promptly to ensure the animals receive care and rehabilitation before being safely released back into the wild. Their deep knowledge of the local ecosystem and hands-on experience makes them invaluable to both the community and the environment.

Early Warning Device

In the Jhargram region, where human-elephant conflict has been a growing concern, we have introduced an Early Warning Device system to help mitigate such incidents. These solar-powered devices are strategically installed along elephant movement corridors and alert nearby villages with sirens and flashing lights when elephants are approaching. This timely warning gives communities the chance to take protective measures, reducing crop damage, property loss, and potential harm to both people and elephants. The initiative promotes peaceful coexistence through simple yet effective technology.

Tree Plantation Drives

We actively conduct tree plantation programs year-round to combat environmental degradation and promote biodiversity. Reforesting local areas helps in reducing pollution, restoring ecological balance, and creating green cover that benefits both people and wildlife. Guests are also welcome to participate in our plantation drives during their stay, contributing personally to this important cause.

Paper Plate Making Project

The project actively involves local village women, providing them with a sustainable source of income and a step towards financial independence. Through hands-on training and support, these women are now producing eco-friendly paper plates, which are used at the resort and sold in nearby markets. This initiative not only empowers them economically but also promotes environmentally conscious practices, creating a positive impact both socially and ecologically.
